FAQ

What are Slow Sessions?

Slow Sessions are an opportunity to relax, slow down together, and appreciate the beauty of the moment. These are photography sessions that range anywhere from three to eight hours, long enough to fall into your family's natural rhythm but not so long that you feel drained after. Each session duration is tailored to your needs and we'll discuss specifics over the phone prior to booking. Letting the day unfold in front of us creates more space for the beautiful truth of your everyday life. I want to capture you in that truth!

Why go slow?

Everything in this modern world happens too fast. Wouldn't you just like to hit the "pause" button, if only for a moment, just so you could sink a little deeper into the present?

Slow sessions are about capturing those fleeting moments that are also sometimes the most important ones.

I want to capture the baby curls before the haircut.

I want to capture the way your partner looks at you and the beautiful light on the back porch.

I want to capture you with your arms full of blankets, kids trailing behind you as you make your way across the beach.

Even though there may be dishes in the sink. Even though there might be legos on the floor. It never has to be perfect to be beautiful or true.

Slowing down allows us to find the beautiful moments in the day, rather than rushing around trying to make everything look perfect for the camera.

What about my camera shy toddler/teen/partner?

Can I tell you a secret? I, too, get really uncomfortable in front of cameras. The second I'm in front of the lens instead of behind it I feel so awkward and I have no idea what to do with my hands. Ironic, right?

So I totally get it! The idea of having a camera in your face for a prolonged amount of time does not sound like fun to many, but that's not how my Slow Sessions work. I use a mix of gentle direction and careful observation to capture both candid and camera-aware shots that document the beauty of what's already in front of me, rather than relying on stiff posing or games.

If your kid is having a meltdown, we've got time to let them work through it and regroup. We can wander in and out of rooms as they do, capturing real moments of play. We can let your pets wander in and out of the scene, grabbing shots when they're feeling cooperative. If your teen is just not feeling it that day, that's okay - we've got plenty of time for them to warm up to me, and they usually do. I might ask you to move into the good light while we talk or exclaim "Oh! Turn your head like that again!" as we sit while you're holding your child. And you might laugh and oblige and maybe I won't capture the first scene I saw but I'll capture a genuine smile this time instead. No prompts, no fake laughing, just you and your family as you are.

How do you plan a Slow Session?

First, we get in touch through email and connect over the phone to discuss your session needs and determine if we're a good fit. Once we've gotten to know each other I'll send you my calendar for booking and you can decide if you'd rather leave a deposit or set up a monthly payment plan. Once your session is booked I'll send over a short session guide with more details and insights to get you thinking and planning about the fun parts of our session. Once our session date gets closer I'll be in contact to iron out any other details we may have missed and to confirm travel details. If at any point in the process you have questions or would like guidance I'm always available through text or can jump on the phone for a quick chat.

What's included in the session?

Within six weeks of our session you will recieve the link to a private photo gallery of 75+ images, along with access to this gallery for a full year. From there you will have the option to download your images and purchase prints.
